Planter Makeover with Spray Paint & Stain
My mom used to make ceramics when I was growing up, she made this canister set back in 1979.
Sheesh.. did I just date myself? Ha ha!
Anyways this is the only piece that has survived. I found stuck in the basement covered in dust doing some clean out!
It was going in the trash but hey, I can give it a makeover! I wanted a planter to transfer some mason jar plants I have that needed more room to grow.
Can you tell this sucker is from the 70’s?! Funny what was ‘in’ back then.

Some trusty ole spray paint turned this out dated canister into a cute planter!
Spray paint fixes everything, eh?

I used Valspars aqua spray paint. My favorite aqua spray paint, its the perfect aqua shade!
I also gave it an aged look with some Minwax stain. Just rubbed with a rag and rubbed/buffed the wax. Don’t do it too hard or let a lot of stain sit in one place long, it can start to eat at the paint.
Those chips blended pretty well and you barley notice them. I suppose I could of use some filler and sanded it out but, I like some character.
I love it, I think it makes cute planter pot! And hey, it was free and carries along in the family!

Of course I had to do a mason jar planter too! Ha ha.
There was a small piece of the plant that was new growth so it fit perfectly in a mason jar.
And sure enough its aqua! Can you tell I love me some aqua? I used one of my vintage Ball jars, I love the vintage ones!
Have you turned an old thrifty find into a planter? I have a free printable print of the above jar in this post if you like.
