Ok its playdough time again! I made some last year too. I cannot believe we are wrapping up 2016 already!

Truthfully… I intended on making this homemade Candy Cane playdough last year but, I just didn’t get a chance to buy ‘real’ red food coloring. You need ‘real’ food coloring to get that kind of red.

These will make great gifts for kids, party favors or just fun! You’ll be able to download a mason jar tag for gifts or favors. 🙂 I saw pins on Pinterest that inspired me to make this for all the nieces & nephews.

The recipe calls for water, flour, salt, vegetable oil, and Cream of Tartar. I was out of vegetable oil(I just dont use it much) and used olive oil instead. Worked just fine.

Of course I added a bit of glitter just like my Christmas Magic Playdough.

I needed eight jars of Playdough. The recipe I linked above yields four 4oz jars. These jars are cute and a nice size for something like this, specially if using for party favors or gifts.

Ok let me just say… I tried a Candy Cane style twisting it to place in the jars but, it was a total fail! LOL. Twisted ok but, sucked to put in this size jar and just looked blobby. A pint size jar may work better for a twist.

So, instead I made playdough ‘medallions’. About 2 inches round. These mason jars have a 2.5 inch mouth and tapers slightly at the bottom.

I rolled out into a log form and cut with a knife. I had to reshape a bit after cutting.

I also added peppermint extract instead of vanilla so it smelled like a Candy Cane.

And of course I had to make a fun printable tag you can use. 😉 As you see below I printed on white and kraft card stock so do what works for you. It has a transparent background to you can print on any color.

I cut around the tags and used a hole punch and my red twine.

Just tie the tags on the jars. How cute are these?

You can see here how I stacked the ‘medallions’ to look like a Candy Cane. The kids can take out their medallions and play. 🙂

I will note the red has bled into the white since sitting in the jars and their is a slight pink on your hands playing. Maybe I used too much food coloring or just that way it is with ‘pro’ red coloring. Ha ha. It was my first time using it.

Washed right off and its fairly faint in color so dont think their hands will be bright pink for a week! haha.
